Google Talk, I found, was a more difficult than all the other video chat platforms to register and set up. This was due to the fact that I didn’t have an IGoogle account, had I owned one I may have found it fairly easy to register. One the things that I noticed right away with Google talk was that the size of the screen was fairly small. It was difficult for me to figure out how to adjust it to make it a larger screen to view or how to make my own video feed larger. It was far easier on the other platforms to adjust the screen size. Another disadvantage of Google Talk was that user is not available to make phone calls only video chat calls to other people. Therefore Google Talk users could only chat with other Good Talk users that happen to be online at the same moment. Also I learned that Google Talk does not offer any gaming services that the other two platforms provide. Unlike Skype or Yahoo! video chat users can interact with one another by playing games together which I found to be really fun and exciting.
Yahoo! Video chat, to me, was by far the most users friendly. Although I am more accustomed to Skype I found myself being able to change preferences and settings fairly quickly than I could on Skype. When chatting on Yahoo!, the service provides a large screen to view the other person and if for any reason you want to make the window that contains your video feed larger, you can easily do so. Yahoo!, like Skype offers a chat service so two video chat users can “chat” via text if one of the persons doesn’t have a microphone or is having problems with their computer.
Skype offers a large screen to view the other when video chatting. Although I prefer to use Skype as opposed to the other formats I acknowledge it does have flaws with the layout. It can be a little confusing and troublesome to find and change certain settings because they open up many different windows. I do enjoy the gaming feature on Skype though that allowed me to play checkers with another student in class. Also I like Skype’s screen share capability. With just a push of a button I can allow the other user to view what I am viewing on my screen which could come in handy if I were to have computer difficulties and the other person was trying to tell me how to fix it.
Although I do enjoy videochatting I do not see this becoming something that will replace the cell phone. I feel the cell phone has too many advantages that allow it to be more superior to video chat. First cell phones are very portable and can fit in your pocket. Also now days people have their emails set up to their cell phones so you can receive not only text and phone calls but also you’re personal email as well.

A gamer site I do not ordinarily visit is Gaymer.com, which is a gaming sit targeted towards the gay gaming community.
Three discussion forums I found that talk about the topic of personal identity and gaming are in the “Which is more difficult? Coming out as gay or as a gamer” forum. This forum has people discussing what is more difficult for them to come out of the closet in, letting society know that they are gay or that they are gamers. This forum doesn’t not seem to be moderator by a forum moderator because of some of the language used as well as the derogatory terms used in the forum. In this forum it seems most of the bloggers are more conscience about coming out as a gamer because they are perceived as “nerdy” whereas most people’s families already know of their sexuality.
Another forum that discusses personality is a forum titled “What I hate”. This forum is about people expressing the negative connotations the non-gay community has about homosexuals in society. These “complaints” are within everyday life as well as playing games online and interacting with others who feel strongly against gay’s way of life. This forum does not seem to be moderated in anyway because you can read some very strong language directed at those who make fun of homosexuals. Most of the bloggers are talking about how it is hard to be popular or have many friends when kids are very judging about others sexuality.
One last forum that discusses gaming as well as sexuality is the “That’s so Gamer Guy” forum post. Here the bloggers are talking about an ad campaign in New York to try and stop people from saying the expression “That’s so gay”. Gamers here are discussing it because the ad also implies that calling somebody a “gamer” is referring to them as a loner and has no other hobbies. None of the bloggers really seem to agree with the aging ad and discusses its many flaws. Like the other two forums the blogs really do not seem mediated by a third party.

E-commerce assignment
Mr. Jones,
As you have requested me, I have been doing research over various types of e-commerce software that is available to be put on your new website for your shoe shop, “Laces”. After careful review I have found three types of software that has stood out to me being VirtueMart, Magento, and osCommerce. Below I have cited which program you should use and why.
For your “mom and pop” handmade shoe shop, I have reviewed multiple e-commerce software that will be beneficial for your business on-line. For you shop I would recommend you use the osCommerce Software for a variety of reasons. It is in my opinion that you should choose this software because it offers multiple languages in the e-commerce software that consumers can interact with. This could be very valuable to your business because in the state of Texas, as you may know, the market is flooded with consumers of all ethnicities especially an ever growing Latino population. This software has a greater advantage for your business because that the other software, VirtueMart and Magento, do not offer multiple languages. Also with that being said the osCommerce software also offers a consumer a choice in which currency the buyer would like to use. This is also available in the VirtueMart software, should you decide to use that platform, but is lacking in the Magento software. Strength the osCommerce software provides it that it offers you to upload unlimited number of products and categories onto your website. This may not be important to you now but as you meet success in your business and decide to expand this could be a great benefit to you. This advantage in unfulfilled in the Magento and VirtueMart software. Although I don’t recommend using either of the latter two software programs they also offer their advantages.
Some advantages the VirtueMart software offers is it allows you to post multiple images as well as a description for your products. Also when using this software it will automatically compute some of your accounting such as items sold and yearly and monthly revenue figures. On top of that the software allows customers to pay using accounts such as PayPal, WorldPay, PayMate, and NoChex. As I stated earlier this software, you may find, will suite your purposes but may not be as beneficial to you needs as the osCommerce software.
If Magento software piqued your interest you shall find it has its own strengths as well. For one Magento is compatible with mobile devices including the overly popular IPhone so customers not only can surf your website but also order products from their phone. Also Magento offers you the chance to entice customers buy adding coupons to your shopping cart so consumers can save money which would positively affect business. Also this software has a built in software back-up feature so you should not lose data or orders if your system was to crash. With this software the biggest advantage is in the customer service because it offers consumers a chance to look at product and their shopping cart as well as view and track shipping and ordering history.
After reviewing your possible choices for software on your website I hope you have come to the conclusion that all three would fit your needs that you are looking for but the osCommerce software would probably be the most beneficial for your company. I sincerely hope that this has helped you and will help increase your small business as I believe it will soon blossom into a much larger company. I look forward to working with you again soon.
Best Wishes,
Collin Budd

Youtube, Hulu, Veho
YouTube: When viewing a video the layout is pretty basic with no ads distracting you as you view the video. Usually the videos load pretty fast and you don’t have to wait for a video to buffer as you watch. On the main website there is a search bar where you can search for thousands of videos as well as advertising that may become very distracting.
Hulu- When viewing a video I had to let the video buffer momentarily but didn’t slow me down for too long. Also the website appears to be a collection of videos with links to where the video could be viewed. For instance I clicked on a John McCain video and it took me to a different website that was full of ads that became distracting. On the main website there are different categories that allow you to search for TV shows as well as full length movies and allow you to watch them with a few commercial advertising.
Veho- When viewing videos on veho I had to sit through an advertisement as well as wait for a video to buffer and load. Also after the video started a few ads popped up at the bottom of the screen and it took my attention away from the video because I started to try and figure out how to close the dang ad. On the main website of Veho the site seemed to be filled with several ads with just a large search bar in the middle of the screen.
